Galaxy’s Edge is Coming!

On the Edge of Our Seats for Galaxy’s Edge

How many of us are excited about the coming of Galaxy’s Edge to Walt Disney World?  A LOT!  My family is already making plans to be there and, as both Disney and Star Wars fans, we are becoming more giddy with anticipation as the months go by.  Since most of us do not really know about all of the specifics of what to expect with this new land at Walt Disney World, I have gathered some intriguing details from various places to share with you here.

Opening Day is Approaching

If you are Disneyland goers, then opening day for Galaxy’s Edge is scheduled to be inside Disneyland Resort on May 31st of this year, which is practically around the corner.  For those of us who enjoy visiting Walt Disney World, we have a bit longer to wait because Galaxy’s Edge is scheduled to open there on August 29th at Hollywood Studios.

Crowds?

Oh, yes.  There will be crowds.  If you are bold enough to visit Galaxy’s Edge anytime close to when it opens, or if you are brave enough to make Galaxy’s Edge your destination any time in the near future beyond that, then you can probably count of the fact that there will be crowds.  What do you do about that?  There is really only one plan that you can have.  Expect it and do not stress it.

With any new land or attraction that Disney Parks introduce, people are eager to see and experience whatever it is as soon as they can.  Add to that excitement the fact that this new land at Disney is also focused around Star Wars, and that anticipation grows!  As a matter of fact, you might want to pay attention to how smoothly the first weeks and months of Galaxy’s Edge go.  That may possibly give us an indication of whether Disney will implement some sort of crowd control measures for Hollywood Studios.

My advice for people visiting Walt Disney World for the first time will extend to people journeying to Galaxy’s Edge.  Do not wear yourself out or bring a lot of stress on yourself by trying to see and do everything.  Relax.  Walk.  Take in the sights.  Disney pays a lot of attention to so many details that you might miss some visual treats if you are rushing by.  Also, as you approach each destination, does it really matter if you are in front of that guy or if he is in front of you?  In the grand scheme of things, trust me, it almost always does not matter.

Hungry?

No worries.  As with the other lands, Disney Parks will have dining options for you.  From iconic, Star Wars beverage to snacks and meals, you will have quick service options available within Galaxy’s Edge.  The Milk Stand, Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo, Oga’s Cantina, Ronto Roasters, and Kat Saka’s Kettle are places that Disney has announced, though I do not know if they will all be in both California and Florida locations.

Experiences

Millennium Falcon:  Smuggler’s Run will put you — the crew — in the cockpit of this daring flight as you blast into hyperspace and try to keep yourselves safe during your adventure.

Star Wars:  Rise of the Resistance is not scheduled to open until later in the year.  When it does open, though, we are in for a treat because Rise of the Resistance is said to be one of the most advanced and immersive experiences that Disney Imagineering has ever undertaken.  Imagine joining a battle with the First Order.  How would you handle that?  Oh, and the Rise fo the Resistance is said to be long, so prepare for the adventure.

Activities

Savi’s Workshop will give you the opportunity to build your own lightsabers.  Maybe you have done that before, though, right?  What wll be different?  Surely you will find out if you decided to stop in at Savi’s Workshop.

Children and adults alike will enjoy spending some time at Droid Depot, as well.  There you will be able to design your own droid, assemble your own droid, and then — what is this?  Yes, you will even be able to activate your own droid.  Whaaaat?

Perhaps shopping is an activity that you enjoy.  At various places around Galaxy’s Edge, you will be able to shop for galactic themed apparel, collect potentially rare artifacts, observe whimsical toys, and spot exotic creatures from around the galaxy.

More?!

It is said that Galaxy’s Edge will include Easter eggs, so keep your eyes and ears open for what might surprise you.

According to StarWars.com, because there are moments when we get caught up int he thrill and would like to feel like we are a part of the movie story, John Williams’ musical scores will be used during some experiences.  How neat will that be?!

If you like smiles, then check out this article over at OCRegister.com that shows us the reactions of some Disney Cast Members when they found out that they were chosen to play their parts at the new Galaxy’s Edge.  How would you react if you were chosen to be a citizen of Batuu?  I wonder if you will see any of the people from that article because there will be Batuuans walking amongst us at Galaxy’s Edge!

Now…who is eager to learn more about the Star Wars themed hotel?  I know that we are!

  2. I am very curious about this. I have mixed feelings about it. I think they will do well for sure. I just am super sad they yanked out my favorite part of Disneyland to build it. None the less I’m sure we will be there at some point to check it all out since my husband loves Star Wars lol

  3. I haven’t been to Disneyland in years…. it’s a magical place, but now that my daughter is all grown up and we don’t have grand kids (yet) it’s not a vacation destination for us. But, this looks exciting and I’m sure a lot of people will want to be first to see the new attractions!! Thanks for sharing!

  4. How exciting! I live in the Midwest so visits to any Disney park is rare but this sounds amazing. I need a trip to Florida or California!
