Have You Been to Medieval Times?

Bring the Whole Family

Medieval Times is a show that will entertain all ages, so grab the children, grab the grandparents, and get ready for thrills and edge of your seat moments while you enjoy a hearty and delicious meal!  With Medieval Times being located in at least ten different cities, there is a good chance that you can find a theatre near you or nearby where you will go on vacation.

If you have been to Medieval Times in the past, you are in for a treat because there is a new show!  After thirty-four years of entertaining audiences, you can now see a queen a the head of the show.  Oh, yes, changes are happening.

Medieval Times at Myrtle Beach helped make our visit happen, yet everything that I share with you here is my own thoughts and opinions.  Now, without further ado….

We were on vacation at Myrtle Beach celebrating my parents fifty-fourth wedding anniversary.  Yes, fifty-four!  While trying to figure out something fun to do with them, we decided that Medieval Times could be a lot of fun.  As we pulled into the parking lot, we were greeted by the castle looming overhead.  It is pretty neat, right?

Medieval Times Castle

We got on line, and the show began.  What?  Yes!  The show began before we even entered the building, and we were already immersed in the story as Queen Dona Maria and her court arrived.

Let Us Go Inside

Check in was fast and smooth.  Once we were inside of the castle, there was an immense area of open rooms.  There was plenty of seating to relax until the show doors opened, so the anniversary couple took their thrones.

Lots of shopping opportunities were available for all ages.  Look at this incredible display.

Stuffed Animals Dragons

Do you believe in dragons?  Did you know that dragons are mentioned in the old testament twenty-one times?  You can take home one of these dragons for children to cuddle or one for more grown up folks to admire.

Several bars offered various beverages and places to sit and enjoy those beverages and the company.

The Medieval Times castle also had eye catching decor that gave us lots to enjoy while we prepared for the show.

There is also a dungeon which is said to have some interesting displays.  We did not visit the dungeon, yet it was only a few dollars for those who did want to check it out.

While you are waiting to be seated, you can also have someone in your party knighted.  Both children and adults were nominated for this honor, and it was a sweet presentation.  Medieval Times even provided a photographer.

Getting Closer to the Thrills

As we entered the main room and went to our seats, we were greeted by our server.  The anticipation was building!  We were served a full, hearty meal.  My favorite was the dragon scales.  I dipped mine in the dragon’s blood.  Oh, and the dessert was scrumptious, too.  As we enjoyed the food, the show was beginning.

The scene was set.  The story began.  Both the clothing and animals were distinctive.

Black Horse

The knights were introduced, and they and their horses proudly marched out into the arena with their squires at the ready to assist them.

Our knight was the black and white knight.

Queen Dona Maria entered the scene and had a word with the knights, and then everyone cleared the arena.

Now, I have to pause and say that whenever Dona Maria’s name was mentioned with the accent on the n, it sounded like Dawnia Maria.  Since my name is Dawnmarie, you can be sure that that brought a surprise to my face the first time I heard it and a giggle to my mouth.

Magnificent Creatures

This next part was incredible.  These beautiful and majestic horses took time to show us their talents.  They were quite the sight to behold!  We saw elegant prancing.

Horse Walk Canter Dance

There was magnificent jumping.

Horse Jump Jumping Mohawk

These regal creatures were not the only animals at the show.  I will keep the specifics of that as a surprise for when you go to Medieval Times yourself, though.  For now, enjoy some more horses, though the beauty of them in the pictures does not compare to seeing these sleek and muscular creatures.

Celebrations

Queen Dona Maria and Lord Chancellor took some time to recognize some significant people and occasions on the evening of the joust.  It was a surprise and a joy for my parents to hear an announcement about their fifty-fourth wedding anniversary!

Happy Anniversary Grandparents

The adventure was about to begin!  I am not going to tell you the story or the events of these battles and jousts because I certainly do not want to spoil the show for anyone.  However, if you are able to, my whole family would recommend that you fit a trip to Medieval Times into your days.

The Main Event

The knights took their positions.  Both excitement and tension were mounting.

Before the jousting and combat began, giant nets were lowered to protect the spectators from any debris that may go flying.  As you can see, the nets are visible, yet they did not obstruct the view.

Jousting

The battling commenced.  The knights jousted.  The weapons were swinging.  There was hand to hand combat.  On the evening of our attendance, the black and white knight won this round and defeated the — oops, I almost gave away the story.  Yay for our knight!

Medieval Times Wrap Up

After the show, the spectators were able to take pictures with the folks from Medieval Times.  Here is Boy with the black and white knight.

Thank you to Medieval Times of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for extending my family your kindness.  It was a wonderful treat for the anniversary couple, a super fun time for our tween boy, and an evening of smiles for my husband and me.

Fifty-Four Years Anniversary Fifty-Fourth

In my book, there really is nothing like a good dinner theatre for family entertainment.  Between the lights, the action, and the fantasy portrayed at Medieval Times, we enjoyed the evening from start to finish.  Let us know if you decide to experience Medieval Times for yourself!
