Waterfalls, flowing rivers, boulders, forests, and the fresh, mountain air are some things that we enjoyed seeing during our trip. While it is not necessary to read them in order, be sure to see the other fascinating places that we visited in Part One and Part Two of this three part series sharing waterfalls and other views around Cashiers and Highland, North Carolina!
Without further ado, we hope that you will enjoy these pictures. You might even discover a new adventure place for yourself.
Random Pull Off
How did we find this place? I think that we saw a small pull off area and took a chance. If there is a place to park, then there must be something to see, right? There was! We got out of the car, and there was a sort of a social trail down the rocks. It was steep, yet it was worth it.
Look at that beautiful setting that only God could create in nature. What can we even say about it? It speaks for itself in its simple yet elaborate beauty.
It brings a feeling of peace to watch the water wash around this rock formation.
This looks like a fish that would be blowing a horn underwater in The Little Mermaid. Can you see it?
Shall we pull back for a broader view? Can you get enough of the artistry of nature?
There is even a little waterfall. As seems to be a bit of a theme in this forest, you can see another tree laying on the river. Do you ever wonder how they wind up in such positions and if anyone was around to see it happen?
We enjoyed exploring and taking pictures at this mystery location. Sometimes we find some amazing things in life when we step off of our planned path.
The climb back up this steep hill was not my favorite part of the detour because heights and I do not have a good relationship, but I made it!
Hugo’s Boulder Beach
Would you believe that we saw another pull off as we were driving on Highway 64 and decided to go for it again? Why not? It paid off the last time, right?
Down another slightly steep hill we went. This time our adventurousness was rewarded with a quiet area where the waters were not moving as quickly.
We spent a good bit of time here enjoying the surroundings.
We dubbed this location Hugo’s Boulder Beach because there was a beachy area and a boulder. Boy enjoyed skipping small rocks and seeing if he could reach the boulder with the rocks that he found on the ground.
We played. We laughed. We enjoyed the outdoors as a family.
Even among the quiet waters, there was a small waterfall for us to watch.
As we were climbing on some big rocks, we noticed some creepy looking holes. How does that happen? What is in there? How deep do they go? Fascinating.
As we headed back up the hill to leave, this wee plant growing out of another plant caught my eye. It brought a smile to my face seeing that little plant determined to grow somewhere.
Bust Your Butt Falls
Yes, it is really called that. While the name may give you a chuckle — or make you cringe — this was a spectacular place to wrap up our day of exploring. This seems to be an area where people enjoy playing, yet it is so much more.
There are rocks and boulders all over the place. People were enjoying climbing and exploring. I found this spot that looked just right for relaxing.
Before we continue, just take a moment and absorb this scene. Do you see how the sun reflects off of the mist at the top of the falls and how the leaves seem to glow in the afternoon sunlight? Aaah.
Now let us go back to my lounge area. Considering that it was as hard as a rock — ba-dum-bum — it was not completely uncomfortable.
On the next set of boulders over, the guys were enjoying a moment together as they chatted and looked at the view of the last of this trip’s waterfalls.
Facing the direction opposite from the falls, the rocks continue for as far as you can see.
Not Just Waterfalls
Back to where the guys were, there is a rope anchored into the boulder and then anchored up the hill across the water.
While the waterway there is not very wide, in this place, the water flows quickly. It is seriously helpful to have something to grasp while making your way across.
Once you make it to the other side, though, you have a new and different perspective.
You can sit and enjoy the scenery or go back into the water and make your way over to the swimming hole area. Yes, there is an area beyond the bottom of the waterfall where people were swimming and playing.
As you can see in this picture, thee is also a surface to the left of Bust Your Butt Falls where you could walk up. You have to climb across huge rocks to get there. The surface seems to be at a bit of an angle, so I am left wondering if that is from where the Bust Your Butt name came.
Before we close, here is one more potentially breathtaking image for you to absorb as you take a moment to breathe and relax before moving on to your next task.
