Indoor Skydiving is Like Nothing Else

Maybe you know someone who is one of those daring people who goes skydiving because they like the thrill of jumping out of an airplane and flying to Earth.  While you find it fascinating, you might think, “Nah.”  The feeling of flying might be fun, yet you are not prepared to jump from the sky.  Flyaway Indoor Skydiving might be just the right place for your next adventure!

Flyaway Indoor Skydiving gifted us the experience and the excitement of flying in their vertical wind tunnel located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.  You know that we like to share new to us experiences with you, our readers, and this place definitely fit that description, so off we went.  Everything that I am telling you now is our observations and opinions and has not been influenced by Flyaway Indoor Skydiving.

The Experience

Now to get down to the nitty-gritty.  If you do not know anything about skydiving or indoor skydiving, no worries are needed because the folks at Flyaway Indoor Skydiving give you a class to learn exactly what to do — and what not to do — right at the beginning of your experience.  Then they give you the opportunity to ask questions.  The class is short but quite informative.  If you have questions, though, do not hesitate to ask.

Adventure, Thrills, Smoky Mountains

Before or after the class, while you are waiting, you can watch a television screen with a live feed of the wind tunnel and see what other people are doing.

Time to Get Ready

After the class, the staff gets you suited up in your skydiving suit and accessories.  This is where the anticipation starts to kick in!

After you and your family or friends are all suited up and ready to go, you might become giddy with the expectancy of what is coming next.  What is going to happen?  What is it going to be like?  Will we be able to do this?  Oooh, it is almost time to fly!

Family Activity

Look at That

Before we went into the tunnel, we were watching some other folks.  A staff member was showing them some things that you can do in the wind tunnel once you get some experience under your belt.

Let me share a quick note here to tell you that we all had to go into the vertical wind tunnel together, so we were not able to take our own pictures.  There was a gentleman there who was kind enough to take pictures for us.  Our suits were flapping so quickly that the images captured were not fully focused.  However, I am sharing a few of these pictures with you, anyway, so that you can see for yourself what we did once we were in the wind tunnel.

Check Us Out

When it was our turn, a staff member at Flyaway Indoor Skydiving first took us into the vertical wind tunnel and taught us how to fall if we need to.  Then he showed us a few moves that would make our flying experience fun and functional.

Then a different staff member turned on the wind that would lift us up and help us soar.  Up, up, and away.  WHOA!  Look at how high Boy was flying!

I shared some pictures to give you a peek and an idea of what we were doing at Flyaway Indoor Skydiving.  Now you can really see our experience by watching this video that Flyaway took for us.  When you go, you can get a video, too!

Add Flyaway to Your Plans

Flyaway Indoor Skydiving has the option to fly by yourself with their Single Party Experience or to fly with a few others with their Block Party Experience.  Is this an experience that we would recommend?  Yes!  The three of us — a dad, a mom, and a tween — all enjoyed the rush of flying with the wind blowing past our faces.

  1. This is awesome! I’ve seen stuff like this before but not sure if I’d be up for it. I know the kids would love it though!

  2. Oh my gosh this sounds like a good substitute for really jumping from a plane for a girl like me. My anxiety has always stopped me from doing the real thing. This is such a good back up and way to ease into the real deal. Great informative post!

  3. My kids always ask to do this every time we drive by it in Pigeon Forge. Maybe I need to give in just once and do it with them. Do you live in Tennessee or just vacation in the Smoky Mountains? We live in Knoxville so we visit Pigeon Forge pretty frequently, so one day soon, I see a trip to Flyaway Indoor Skydiving in our future.

  4. I’ve wanted to do indoor skydiving for a long time! I’ve done actual skydiving once (tethered) and would absolutely do it again. In the meantime, though, I just think it’d be fun to do something like this!

  5. Dude! Did not even know this was a thing!!! On the bucket list for sure. Will do when my daughter is a bit older, she’s 2!

    Thanks! So fun!

  6. We have a similar place here in DFW and we pass by it quite a bit. I’ve always wanted to take my kids in, but then they are pretty hesitant to try new things, so I shy away from even attempting it. Looks fun though! I’d enjoy it. Maybe a date night with hubby. =)

  7. Wow..this is a great post! I have really wanted to do this, and this makes me want to do it sooner than later! Thanks for the info and the locations available..it helps a lot!

  8. I am PETRIFIED of heights. I cannot bring myself to even consider jumping from a plane to skydive. This is much more my speed and I think I will have to give it a try!

  9. I think its a great way to help people and teach kids about this. Safe way to show them its fun for the whole family!

  10. This looks like so much fun! Be a safe way for the whole family to enjoy! And not have to really jump out of a plane 🙂

  11. That looks like so much fun! I would never have the courage to do “real” skydiving, but this I could do. We were in Tennessee years ago and I wish we had known about this when we were there (maybe it wasn’t even there yet, I don’t know). I’m not sure hubby would have been game for it anyway, he’s a bit afraid of heights (shhhh, don’t tell him I told you! LOL). This really does look like a cool experience though.

  12. It looks like lots of fun, but I’m not sure if I could have the guts to do it! Well, maybe I would more guts to do this than to actually skydive!

  13. This look like so much fun! They just added indoor skydiving to one of our local malls. I think I will have to try it!

  14. How fun! My fiance has gone actual skydiving but I think this is more my speed ha. We were actually going to try to go to one on our honeymoon!

  15. My family tried it and they loved it! I watched them and had so much fun, but didn’t get the courage to do it. Hopefully next time!

  16. What an amazing experience this is! I have always wanted to try this and now that I know the process, thanks to your wonderful review, I feel more confident in doing this!

  17. This sounds like a blast. I am pretty sure we do not have anything like that in my area. We have a skyzone park and ninja warrior gym. Maybe a weekend trip someone close? I’ll have to research.

  18. I’ve actually done the “real” skydiving – when I was much younger. I have children now so don’t know if I would ever do it again… but I would do this! This would be a great compromise, something I could do with my kids and give the adrenaline rush!

  19. I am absolutely dying to go to Gatlinburg! A few of my travel blogger friends have posted about this spectacular area. Our family would so dig it. I hadn’t heard of the skydiving place previously. Such a fun array of things to do!!

  20. I’ve always wondered how much this was like the real thing. There is a center just north of Baltimore city near us. Do you think it would be hard for someone with fear of heights? It’s hard to tell how far you drop…or if you just float in the wind tunnel.
